I think they're a little biased, but several of her aunts thought she had the best outfit out of all the kids that day. I thought she looked pretty darn cute myself. One of the days I had literally feared since she first assumed the gender of girl-that-likes-boy-things (we came up with that together in her first year of school) came and went happily and confidently. She was 100% pleased with our choice of outfit (much love and thanks to the West Side Goddess of our family for the beautiful raw silk and careful labour that together became the perfect lil' girl's suit), and so was I.

I've seen her take Communion three times now, and each time she is so careful and calculated - it's so cute. And it's so her. I call her military because she is the one out of my three who won't take one step away from her bed in the morning until it's made, her homework is #1 priority when she gets home, and she will FREAK OUT if she forgets something (One day I'll teach her that after the thousandth time, you don't need to sweat it).

So now that this scary moment for me as a mom of a unique, middle child has passed, the next one smacked me in the head last night:

"Mommy, I know where the baby grows in a mom's tummy - uterus."
