First Communion - Part I - The Food

Posted On 11:06 AM |

I think it all turned out quite nicely, don't you?
The kids were off from school on Friday so we all got our hands dirty and made cucumber and California rolls. It was fun, and the kids did a fantastic job - I bet you can't tell the difference between the ones I made and the ones they did.
And then there's the cupcakes. I actually didn't follow that 2-part 1M swirl instruction and just went for it. It worked! I hope you think it did too.....I forgot the milk in my first batch, so if any of the swirls look a bit haggard, that's why. Or it could be because Big Boy did more of a shove than a gently-place with the silver candy balls on top. I had so much fun, and it brought me back to the days when I would watch Mom and my aunt decorate the infamous Filipino mocha chiffon cakes.
And yes, you are seeing some skewered bbq happily marinating in the background of one of those pics. Unfortunately the finished products turned out a little bit dry (Hubby was so deflated come eating time), due to some miscommunication between me and HubbyMom which led to the oven being left on while we were at the church. It was on the lowest setting just to keep all the meat warm but boy oh boy did I ever pray hard during that drive home that the house wouldn't be on fire when we got home.
All the yummy, healthy fruit (must balance the pop I'm always forced to buy for parties with some produce) joined in the fun thanks to M.O.M. (My Other Mom)
Don't mind my eyebags in these pictures...but do take a look at my whimsical cake stand (i.e. I don't have a cake stand so I used the kids' lego) haha
